Why am I being asked for a prescription to place a bid?

Back to FAQs  Back to Category
US Federal Law under the authority of the Food and Drug Administration requires a prescription to purchase a CPAP, APAP, or BiLevel machine as well as an oxygen concentrator or medical pulse oximeter.

CPAPAuction must receive and review your prescription prior to authorizing you to bid on these machines.

As manager of prescriptions on behalf of other sellers, CPAPAuction has strict guidelines regarding the format of the prescriptions we will accept.

An acceptable prescription meets the following criteria:
  • It is signed and dated by a practitioner licensed with that authority by the state in which he or she practices. A notation of an electronic signature is unacceptable.

  • It is written on letterhead of the physician or facility, or what is recognizably a preprinted form such as a prescription blank, and which contains contact information of the physician or facility.

  • Handwritten orders, copies of medical records or forms which are generated by word processing programs and therefore easily reproduced are unacceptable.

  • Depending on the type of machine being prescribed, certain Phrasing Requirements listed in another section apply.

Please Note: If a specific pressure setting is not provided on the prescription, only an Auto version of the machine will be authorized for bidding.

Be sure to submit your prescription well before you wish to bid on a machine. The prescription must be reviewed to ensure that it meets criteria and to determine the type of machine it authorizes before you will be able to bid. This review and authorization will only take place during customer service hours.
